Psychedelic University: Iboga with Tobias A. Erny

  • Life Artists Hub 4 Milastraße Berlin, BE, 10437 Germany (map)

The root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub has long been considered a sacred medicine in western equatorial Africa.

Traditionally, it serves as a catalyst for spiritual initiation and is said to enable communication with the ancestral realm. The pharmacologically induced near-death experience is a central element of the African Bwiti cults.

Due to its unique neuropharmacological properties, Iboga and its Alkaloids facilitate a relatively painless withdrawal from various drugs, especially Opioids and earned a reputation as a powerful tool in psychotherapy.

Microdosing with Iboga is becoming increasingly popular and is used for a variety of physical and psychological ailments.

This lecture provides an overview of the African Iboga tradition, some historical landmarks, an outline of the mechanisms of action and the resulting application possibilities.

Trained in the chemical-pharmaceutical industry in Basel, Tobias Erny experienced the healing power of Iboga in 2006. Fascinated by the enormous possibilities, he immersed himself deeply in research and work with the traditional plant medicine.

Together with the team from the Nachtschattenverlag, he published the German standard on Iboga, organizes conferences, gives lectures on the topic and is currently working on a study that helps Parkinson's Disease patients with Iboga microdosing.

In addition to educational work at universities, conferences and other events, he is on the Global Iboga Therapy Alliance board. GITA is a non-profit dedicated to spreading the knowledge of Iboga and its alkaloids. In particular, the sacramental and therapeutic benefits are supported through sustainability initiatives, scientific research, education and knowledge transfer.
